We had an excellent visit to this private school of 1000 students. Ichiro Ishikawa – Trustee/Senior Vice Principal discussed his personal commitment to returning Japanese students. Takako Mori joined us from JOES. In order to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills they are using the IB Theory of Knowledge (ToK) course. He is interested in using the Socratic method and developing logic and reasoning skills. While their students have excellent mathematical skills they lack reading strategies. Classes have approximately 32 students. They are experimenting with single sex classes in grades 7 and 8.
Ishinomaki
A town that provides rice to the northern region. Other industries are fishing, paper making and metals. This area was impacted by the tsunami on 3.11.2011. There was a quake registering 5.3 thirty miles away, many felt the tremors while we were there.

A fast quiet, pristine commuter train. Before we could board in Tokyo the entire was thoroughly cleaned by a team of women in hats and flowered shirts.

Recently visited by President Obama, this museum showcases advances being made in science and innovation in Japan. The androids and pet therapy robots were captivating.
